Mitkof Middle School - Home of the Vikings

Dear Parents, Guardians, and School Supporters,

I hope this letter finds you well and enjoying the summer break. It is with immense pleasure and excitement that I extend a warm welcome to you as the new principal of Petersburg High School and Mitkof Middle School. As we prepare to embark on a new academic year, I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and express my dedication to the growth and success of our students.

First and foremost, I am incredibly honored to join the Petersburg community, a place renowned for its commitment to academic excellence, character development, and fostering a supportive learning environment. As I step into this role, I bring with me a wealth of experience in education, a passion for student achievement, and a deep respect for the traditions and values that make our school unique. I have worked in Alaskan Schools for 15 years and in education for over 30 years. I began my life in Alaska in 1962 in Anchorage. I have also lived in Fairbanks, Hydaburg, Klawock/Craig, and Gustavus.

One of my primary goals is to build upon the strong foundation laid by my predecessors, while also seeking innovative ways to enhance the educational experience for our students. I am committed to fostering a culture of inclusivity, where each student feels valued, respected, and empowered to reach their fullest potential. Working collaboratively with our dedicated staff, I intend to create an environment that promotes critical thinking, creativity, and a lifelong love for learning while encouraging personal responsibility for success.

Open communication between school and home is essential to the success of our students. To that end, I encourage you to actively engage in your child’s education and stay connected with us through regular updates, parent-teacher conferences, and school events. We are partners in shaping the future of our students, and your involvement plays a vital role in their growth. To this end, please feel free to contact or visit me if you have questions or concerns.

In the coming weeks, I will have the pleasure of meeting many of you during our back-to-school events and orientations. I look forward to the opportunity to get to know you and hear your thoughts, aspirations, and concerns. Your input is invaluable as we work together to provide the best possible educational experience for our students.

As we embark on this new journey together, I am filled with anticipation for the incredible achievements and moments of growth that await our students. With your unwavering support and our collective commitment to excellence, I am confident that we will continue to uphold the legacy of Petersburg High School and Mitkof Middle School and create a bright future for all who pass through our doors.

Thank you for entrusting your child’s education to us. Here’s to a year filled with exciting opportunities, meaningful connections, and remarkable successes. I eagerly anticipate the privilege of working alongside you in the coming months.

Wishing you a joyful end to your summer break and looking forward to an inspiring academic year ahead.

Warmest regards,

Brad King, Principal
