PHS Chemistry II students connect with 2nd grade
The Chemistry II students prepared a series of interactive and engaging science experiments to present to the second-grade classes, creating three memorable days of learning and discovery. From demonstrating the fascinating science behind lava lamps, crafting bouncy balls, and producing invisible gases, to creating "hot ice," drawing with invisible ink, and more, the high schoolers brought the wonders of chemistry to life.
Each experiment showcased a unique chemical reaction, sparking curiosity and wonder in the young learners. The second graders were excited to join in, asking questions and trying the experiments alongside the high schoolers.
The three days of collaboration sparked a love for science in the younger students and gave the high schoolers a chance to showcase their teaching and leadership skills, creating a fun and inspiring experience for all.

Mrs. Ward’s food science class explored the science of dehydrating meat by designing their own deer jerky recipes. Students experimented with balancing ingredients and spices to perfect their creations. While working together, they learned about the importance of temperature control and drying time in producing high-quality jerky. To conclude the project, the class held a taste test to sample their creations and voted on the best recipe, making the experience both educational and delicious.
Many thanks to Tucker Gibson and Scotty Newman for donating the deer meat.

🎨✨ In Middle School art class, we’ve been diving into chalk pastels to recreate still-life images! We started by exploring an "under study" technique—shading and smudging one color over a cardstock background, then “erasing” shapes to reveal the composition of our still-life: grapes, a bowl, and apples. 🍇🍎
From there, we brought the scene to life by focusing on high drama—each element needed a highlight, mid-tone, and shadow. Our rule: use three or more pastel colors per item. ✨
The results? Stunning! Many 7th and 8th graders were hesitant about tackling still-life art but were amazed at how following the steps helped them create realistic and vibrant pieces. So proud of their hard work and creativity! 🎨👏

The School Board approved the 2025-26 School Year Calendar at the November 19th Board meeting. This calendar was a combination of feedback received from staff, school community members, and students. We recognize that no calendar will be perfect but tried to consider all feedback received. Items to note: school begins after Labor Day in September. Christmas Break is a little bit longer for students in to January. Spring Break includes two full weekends. There are two, four-day weekends in October and February to allow for Parent-Teacher conferences, one over Presidents' Day. A printable version of the calendar can be found at this link: https://5il.co/31jpg
