Day 11
🌟 Finding Joy in the Little Things 🌟 On Friday, we shared a special treat with our students—hot cocoa at breakfast! ☕✨ It’s a simple but meaningful way to remind everyone to slow down, take a deep breath, and appreciate the small joys in life. In the hustle of each day, these moments of warmth and connection make all the difference. 💛 What little joy brightens your day? 🌈

🤖Mitkof Middle School LEGO Robotics This semester, the Petersburg LEGO Robotics team has diligently worked on building and then programming a robot to accomplish a variety of different tasks on this year’s LEGO Robotics map while also exploring different problems that STEM professionals who work in underwater environments regularly face and some different ways in which these problems can be solved. This year’s LEGO Robotics theme was, “Submerged”. Therefore, the students' robot was challenged to navigate an underwater themed LEGO map, which presented a variety of underwater simulated challenges that engineers who work in submerged environments deal with regularly. Further, students worked on 2 different submerged innovation projects. The students on the varsity team explored ways in which glacier researchers can better latch onto ice when using underwater ROVs to collect data from glaciers. Meanwhile, the JV team interviewed individuals in our community to see how an underwater ROV could help them perform their jobs better and how current ROVs could be improved. The JV Team walked away scoring 115 points and placed 9th overall in the competition while the Varsity team scored 180, placed 3rd overall, and qualified for the LEGO Robotics State competition in Anchorage this February. Go Vikings!🤖

We've had some wonderful winter events this past week. Most of our elementary students filled the halls of Petersburg's long term care with their voices, and even got a little special help from former superintendent, Erika! The elementary holiday concerts were wonderful and filled the auditorium. We're looking forward to this week's middle and high school concerts.

PHS Chemistry II students connect with 2nd grade The Chemistry II students prepared a series of interactive and engaging science experiments to present to the second-grade classes, creating three memorable days of learning and discovery. From demonstrating the fascinating science behind lava lamps, crafting bouncy balls, and producing invisible gases, to creating "hot ice," drawing with invisible ink, and more, the high schoolers brought the wonders of chemistry to life. Each experiment showcased a unique chemical reaction, sparking curiosity and wonder in the young learners. The second graders were excited to join in, asking questions and trying the experiments alongside the high schoolers. The three days of collaboration sparked a love for science in the younger students and gave the high schoolers a chance to showcase their teaching and leadership skills, creating a fun and inspiring experience for all.

Mrs. Ward’s food science class explored the science of dehydrating meat by designing their own deer jerky recipes. Students experimented with balancing ingredients and spices to perfect their creations. While working together, they learned about the importance of temperature control and drying time in producing high-quality jerky. To conclude the project, the class held a taste test to sample their creations and voted on the best recipe, making the experience both educational and delicious. Many thanks to Tucker Gibson and Scotty Newman for donating the deer meat.
